The Gregory Marmaros Athletic Excellence Award

Do it for Mama!

The Gregory Marmaros Athletic Excellence Award has been established to honor the life and legacy of Brother Gregory Marmaros (Iota Chi, 2008) — a brother, mentor, and friend whose belief in the power of sports and the strength of community inspired all who knew him.

This annual award will be granted to an undergraduate brother of Pi Kappa Alpha at the University of Connecticut who exemplifies the values Greg lived by: hard work, dedication, and unwavering loyalty. Preference will be given to those studying in a sports-related field, participating in varsity or club athletics, and/or pursuing a career in sports industry.

“You win with good people.”
Gregory Marmaros

Brother Marmaros’ journey through life was one powered by teamwork, determination, and a commitment to others. A standout high school wrestler in Ohio, Greg carried his passion for athletics into every chapter of his life. While studying sport management at the University of Connecticut, he served as a student manager for the UConn Husky football team — an experience that shaped his future.

After graduating in 2012, Greg earned a coveted football operations internship at Northwestern University. In just one year, his tireless work ethic led to a historic appointment: at only 23 years old, Greg became the youngest Director of Football Operations in the country when he joined Fordham University. By 2016, he was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director of Football Operations.

Greg’s dream of reaching the NFL came true with the New England Patriots, where he served as Football Operations Assistant and later Coordinator of Football Operations. He helped guide the team through two Super Bowls — winning one — fulfilling a dream built on years of sacrifice and teamwork.

But perhaps Greg’s most lasting legacy began when he returned home to Cleveland in 2019 to serve as Associate Athletic Director at Hawken School. There, he found his true purpose: guiding and inspiring young athletes. Whether on or off the field, Greg led with compassion and humility, always putting the team first.

Greg believed deeply in the power of sports to build character, create lifelong bonds, and bring out the best in people. He lived by the motto, “You win with good people,” and embodied it in every facet of his life.

Support Greg’s Legacy

The Gregory Marmaros Athletic Excellence Award ensures that Greg’s spirit will continue to impact future generations of young men who share his passion for athletics and teamwork.

This scholarship is part of a permanently endowed fund, meaning your donation is invested to grow over time. Each year, only a portion of the fund’s earnings is used to grant scholarship, ensuring the principal remains intact and that the scholarship can support students in perpetuity. The larger the fund balance, the larger the annual grant.

In an effort to endow the scholarship prior to the return of the Iota Chi chapter in the fall 2025, the Marmaros family generously gifted $25,000 to qualify the scholarship! Their ask is for those who knew Greg to rise to the occasion and match their donation. To date, over $35,000 has been raised by friends and family of the Marmaros’s Family. It’s time for Greg’s PIKE brothers to step up and exceed that show of support. Recurring gifts, however small, is the most effective way to grow the fund balance over time. Recurring gifts compound over time so please consider a smaller gift but on recurring basis.

By contributing, you’re helping to build a legacy rooted in those values our fraternity preaches, and Greg practiced.

Iota Chi Chapter Endowment Fund (Pike University Scholarship)

UCONN PIKE is set to return in Fall of 2025! Yes, you read that correctly.

Our pitch to return to Storrs was met with great support by the administration. A big selling point of our pitch centered around alumni support. Alumni support remains the most vital contribution to successful chapters. Support is either bucketed by time and/or treasure. The administration loved our vision of supporting leadership development through PIKE University.

The Iota Chi Chapter Endowment Fund will raise critical scholarship dollars earmarked specifically for Iota Chi Chapter's PIKE University undergraduate registration. The benefit to Iota Chi alumni is the endowment allows alumni to make tax-deductible financial contributions to a chapter specific initiative.

Once the fund is endowed, the annual scholarship grant will be 3-5% of the funds corpus balance. That grant will occur annually in perpetuity. Giving to the Chapter Endowment Fund is a win/win for the chapter as the leadership gets the training they need to be a successful chapter. More information and your tax-deductible donation can be made here.

Tim Bonavita Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Iota Chi Alumni Association alongside the Pi Kappa Alpha Foundation is establishing a memorial scholarship in Tim’s honor. The Tim Bonavita Memorial Scholarship must raise a minimum $25,000 through donations and long-term pledges to reach its endowment level.

Over $17,500 has been raised, but we need your help to reach the $25,000 minimum threshold. Once endowed, the scholarship will be awarded to help offset tuition and education expenses. The annual grant of 3-5% the fund's corpus balance will be awarded in perpetuity. Help memorialize Tim's legacy by giving a future PIKE the opportunity to make an impact on Iota Chi and the UCONN community.

The 2023 Pike Holiday Happy Hour and Trivia Night

The Pi Kappa Alpha Iota Chi Alumni Association recently held their annual holiday party and trivia night at New Park Brewery on December 19th, 2023. Brothers from all over were in attendance to celebrate the season and enjoy some delicious burgers and cold beer.

The night began with a trivia game that tested everyone’s knowledge. With many experienced brothers in the room, it was no surprise that we came out on top, finishing in the top 10 (out of 14). We celebrated our success with cheers, high fives, and more beer.

Overall, it was a great night for everyone involved. We had an amazing time catching up with brothers we hadn’t seen in a while and learning new things about each other throughout the trivia game. It was wonderful to see so many of us come together for an evening of fun and fellowship as we celebrated the holidays together once again.
